Pros: you're helping the environment w/ recycled paper!
Envelopes are fine, just like the more pricier ones...I don't see any big difference other than the extra $5 bucks a box.

WORTH THE PRICE
Pros: low price, very low failure rate
Cons: not on sale often enough, occasional incomplete crimp on clasps, occasional off-center clasp/hole
I have used over 200 boxes of these exact 9 x 12 envelopes over the past 3 years for my home Amazon business, shipping books. Combined with bubble wrapping the contents the price can't be beaten. It MEETS my expectations because of the balance between price, quality and reliability
They hold up great for US and International postage use and failure rate has been essentially nil.
Yes, they are not perfect but I think they are a good balance between price and quality. These are the NUMBER ONE seller in large manila envelope sizes. I know manufacturing in general.
There is a good reason why the 9 x 12 envelopes are HALF THE PRICE of ones just a half inch larger or smaller. These are produced in mass quantities. I wouldn't be surprised if they make more of these than all other sizes combined.
YES, the end flaps are not glued flat right to the end and YES, they can catch in postal machines.
BUT, from a manufacturing standpoint there would be a whole new set of "CONS" if they tried to make all the flaps perfectly glued to the end. The reality is that IF they ran glue out far enough to do that, they would have envelopes sticking together and possibly tearing.
It would be impossible to glue the flaps perfectly, prevent sticking from excess glue AND to still keep making them fast enough to keep the price where it is, below $8 and sometimes at $4 or $5 when on sale. Priced at the sale levels the deal is way too good to pass up
I just wish they put them on sale more often.
YES, they probably could improve the quality but the added costs would drive the price up.
Instead of gluing the flaps, I just add a quick, tiny piece of cheap dollar store clear tape on the two small ends of the bottom flap and never have any problems.
As for holes not lining up, the only real problems I've had with the 10,000 envelopes I've used is a very rare occurrence of one side of the clasp not being properly crimped and the clasp falling off and also, rarely, BOTH the hole and clasp offset. I have almost never had the clasp and hols misaligned, just both off-center sometimes.
OVERALL, I'll take the few cons given the piece price
I have bought dozens of boxes when then have had them on sale

Clasps don't line up
The quality of the envelope itself seems okay, but the clasp doesn't line up with the hole, which makes these envelopes rather useless without a roll of mailing tape.

Works great for mailing
We use these as a low cost way to ship products. They are durable enough to travel throughout the US Postal system and through Customs and overseas.

quality is poor
Cons: mismatch of clasp and flap hole.
quality is very poor.
i ordered 10 boxes and till now i opened 5 of them all had the same problem of clasp and flap hole mismatch. its like looking london and talking tokyo. i dont have much time at this time of year. for now i m using these coz i dont know how much time will it take to return and everything. overall quality seems less than average.

Envelopes are not glued together!
Cons: poorly made - have to reinforce with tape
The last two boxes that we have received of these since May have not been glued properly. the bottom flap tha tshould be glued tight is either completely open or has very little glue in a few areas. So, we end up having to completely tape the envelope shut at the top and bottom
In addition the clasp often falls off. We don't use it anymore as we already have the tape out, so we just tape the top too. I just opened a new box and they are all the same way. Will be calling CS to return them.

Good except for bad gluing sometimes
Pros: fairly good price
Cons: frequently lacks enough glue along bottom edge
Although I do always order these envelopes because of the price, I wish the gluing along the bottom edge was a little better. I frequently add a little glue to the flap ends because I'm worried they may somehow rip open when going through the postal sorting machines.
