Pros: durable, lots of light, can be taken apart
Cons: 4-way switch, leans sideways if not assembled well
I bought this lamp in college five years ago. Since then it has survived being disassembled and moved 4 times and still works fine. You can take it apart and pack it back in its relatively small box for moving, which makes it great for students. It's also relatively easy to put together because you don't need any tools. I'm not a do-it-yourself person but I managed to put it together without any help. It's a bit of a hassle getting the wires to come through the stem because you have to pull on them to get them to come through, and if you don't do it right you can't get the lamp to stand up quite straight. But even if it leans a little to the side it won't fall over.
Mine takes two 150 watt bulbs, so the office depot description that it takes only 1 bulb may be wrong, or maybe it's a newer model. It's enough to light an entire dorm room if you put it in the corner, and not as much of a fire hazard as a halogen lamp. It has a 4-way switch which can be a little annoying if you don't use the smaller reading light: you have to turn the switch 4 times to get the lamp back to the off position. But after a while you get used to the settings and can turn the switch very quickly without thinking.
