Nice machine; network/ATX problems?

Pros: value, Quiet, Design, Performance
Cons: premature death
We've had this machine for a couple of months; suddenly two days ago the wired Ethernet connection stopped working. (We were able to fall back on WiFi, but our office WiFi is only G, so it's much slower.)
I noticed at the same time that the glowing power indicator across the top wasn't turning off when the computer was shut down; I unplugged the power and held in the power button for a few seconds, and when I plugged it back in and turned it on, everything was back to normal. Hurrah! The Ethernet worked, and when I shut down the computer it turned off completely. Problem solved!
Except that yesterday it happened again - both the power-not-going-off and the Ethernet-not-going-on - and nothing I can do now seems to fix it. The HP warranty is still in place, although not OD... I liked this machine a LOT when I first set it up, but I can't recommend a computer that goes toes-up so fast.
If I had to venture a guess (heck, why not?), I'd suspect the power supply. Fortunately, I don't really need to guess.

Great PC for the Price

Pros: value, Features, Design, Performance, dvi-d connection, quick/easy setup, wireless proformance, 8usb port vs 6usb as stated, 1.5tb hd, beats audio, awesome pc
Cons: no hdmi connection, wireless keyboard/mouse combo would be better
Office Depot: Outstanding professionals and service!
For me, it wasn't the old battle of which is better, AMD or Intel, it was price, features and quality. Thus far, the AMD processor is solid and meets my expectations.
This Desktop is powerful and meets my demands. The Windows8 learning curve was not that hard just different than what I was use to. Fast PC with simple to use. The plug&play made setup a breeze.
I have a 2.0USB external HD plugged in and it accesses it faster than my older Dell. Internet speed and connection is quick and steady and the wireless connections with my other devices have been solid without problems. Loaded MS Office 2013 and was pleased with the speed of accessing PowerPoint files, performing Excel calculations and the use of Word docs and files. Photo's are quick to access, edit and process without slowing the PC which decreases my time and effort.

Dead hard drive on day 5

Cons: hard drive quality
I was impressed by this computer for the first 4 days I owned it. Then the hard drive went belly up.
As it started to boot up, I got a message that there was a "Secure Boot Violation - Invalid signature detected - Check secure boot policy in Setup". Unfortunately I could not access setup.
The machine then apparently tried to connect to HP's support servers with a message of "start PXE over IPv4". That generated a server response timeout message. Then came "Start PXE over "IPv6"
Eventually I was faced with the following message:
"Error: No boot disk has been detected or the disk has failed"
After trying a few more times to boot it up, I gave up.
This computer goes back to Office Depot tomorrow.

Great Computer (Windows8 meh)

Pros: value, Quiet, Easy to Use, Design, Performance
Cons: windows 8 learning curve
Windows 8 is a big change, made more for a touch screen, but I've gotten everything to work ok now. As far as the computer, it's great, I love it. I'm a net admin and usually spend more on my personal unit, but was in a hurry and had to grab something quick and this was on sell, seemed the best bang for the buck. Lucked out, it's a great machine, fast and well balanced hardware setup, it's fast and a great at multitasking, but best of all it's super Quiet, I'd buy it again in a second.

office Depot is the Best!

Pros: value, Easy to Use, Design, Performance, win 8 is not so scary, beats audio has great sound
Cons: not thrilled with most of the ms app tiles
With the exception of this review form, Office Depot experience was great! However, this is the fourth time I've attempted the review form...a sad ending to a rather wonderful buying experience. Office Depot personnel have always been friendly, whether in person at the stores, or online or on a call to customer service. I ordered my computer in late afternoon on a Thursday online, and it was at my door by 11 am Friday, the next day.on regular shipping (3-5 days). I always enjoyed shopping at the stores but online is great, too.
Now, on to the product. HP Pavilion p7-1421 is living up to it's previous ratings so far. I was a bit worried if the new Win 8 would be a problem, but I am pleased to report it is quite workable if you take your time. Unless you have an overwhelming urge to seek the social networking online that Win 8 offers, skip the tiles except for the one lableled DESKTOP. It's here that you find your computer files so you can explore and search. It also gives you access to your network, You can see by the programs that some normal items are still there, like the calculator and notebook, but they threw out some orgot fancy on others, like the original Wordpad.... making it a sort of hybrid of a MS Word program and the old Wordpad. It doesn't do as much as you would want from your Word program, believe me, I tried. I would rather have the bare-bones Wordpad instead. The nice thing is...you can install your old programs, which I did and found no problems with earlier editions of Works, and Office Pro suites I had.
Another tile that is worthwhile is the calendar which displays a desktop size calendar by month...gives a good overview when I open the machine and I am set for what needs to be done in the future. This calendar is what I have been waiting for from MS. The "library" collections for your documents is intriguing and I look forward to utilize them. Beats Audio has made my tinny speakers on my existing monitor sound very good; I can only imagine how awesome Beats Audio can be on good speakers. Shut down is so much easier with Win 8 than with Vista.
The computer has all the bells and whistles I need; looks good on my table, and plays happily with my other computers over the in-house network. So far, I am pleased as punch.
Only a few exceptions plague me about Win 8...not the computer.
1. The old MS games appear to be gone and you are encouraged (by the tile) to use the online version of games.... Freecell, klondike, and spider solitaire are not fun anymore on solitaire games online..
2. MS's Bing search engine has the worst weather tile, with bare-bones info in a city 20 miles to the east of my town. Weather can be different between the Rocky Mtn foothils and the eastern plains. The tile doesn't seem to carry any button to change to a different zip code for more accurate weather, like many sites do. As a search engine, I would think Bing could put more into its weather reporting or include other options. Like I said before, skip the tiles; use your tried and true websites that you've bookmarked for years. PS, if you make your own programs into app tiles, they aren't pretty or flashy and can't be enlarged like Microsoft apps.

Very nice home computer

Pros: value, Performance
Cons: windows8
It's fast, has some nice features and everything worked right out of the box. It's such a luxury to have a huge disk drive for once. And it was a very good value.
Cons: The DVD drive ate a CD. I'm still not sure how that happened.
Windows 8 is a dog on a PC. Win8 should be a one-star demerit but otherwise it's a great machine.
