good tech support but poor machine

Pros: customer support
Cons: frequent hardware failure
I bought this laptop at the end of August to replace my 3-year old HP which is burning out its video card. It worked well until early November, after 2.5 months of average 3 hours daily use at home.
First the computer couldn't start. After talking with Lenovo tech support and some diagnostic tests over the phone, it was determined to be a harddrive failure. Lenovo mailed me a replacement harddrive almost the second day.
One week later, the keyboard stopped working once Windows is up. Again, tech support was readily available. However, this time, they couldn't figure out the problem over the phone. They send me a box the second day to have my laptop mailed in for repair. They also provided excellent online system for me to track where my computer is and mailed it to me the second day the computer was ready. The problem is that my 3-month new/old computer is now a completely refurbished, since they have to replac the motherboard, harddrive, Wifi card, memory card, keybed, palmrest, etc. Now two hours into reinstalling my own software and other programs, the processor make a lot of noise when it's running. Seems like a real ThinkPad now, since it's thinking aloud. I wonder if I should ask for a replacement laptop instead.

I liked this laptop

Pros: kep pad, display, screen size
Cons: poor battery life, no led indicators
I liked most of the things in this Laptop compare to Sony Vioa I have. Things I did not like are battery life time (only 2 hr max, because it has 4 cell battery and not having LED indicators of system processing.

Good laptop

Pros: best keyboard, light weight
Cons: less battery life, frequent system crashes, surface is so slippery
Every thing is fine with the lappy except with the battery life.It doesn't long life even for 2hrs.Its so bad about that and some times so disgusting.Lappy some times crashes but it provides built-in recovery manager which handles that and there is no problem regarding that.

Good Value

Pros: value, processor performance, Size & Weight, good keyboard feel, spill proof keyboard.
Cons: slippery surface, no lighted keyboard, Short Battery Life
This is a good compromise between usability and size. The Intel i3 processor's performance is very good compared to other processors but with a slight price increase. Startup from power off or standby is above average although that might be a Windows 7 feature.
I miss the lighted keyboard other brands have but I appreciate the spill proof keyboard. Also the keys are large and have very good feed back.
My Lenovo experience is that reliability is above average and support when needed is also above average.
Although the battery life is less than ideal, I believe the larger capacity battery sticks out from the back of the case increasing the footprint and weight. If I flew more I would probably invest in the larger battery or a second battery.

Almost perfect

Pros: great keyboard, great build quality, quick processor/memory, plenty of ports
Cons: poor battery life, glossy screen, fingerprint magnet
Lenovo's quality is unrivaled, and the Thinkpad Edge line strikes the perfect balance between optimum performance and reasonable cost.
The keyboard is the best I've used; chiclet style with rounded bottoms that make it super comfortable to type on. Having used 10", 13", 15" and 17" screens in the past, I think 14" is the perfect size for a portable, heavy-use machine. The overall size is ideal for a great video and browsing experience, and for using Windows 7's snap feature while multitasking. With 3 USB ports, a SATA, HDMI, ethernet and A/V-out port, combo headset/mic jack, and DVD-RW drive, there is plenty of expansion features also.
The only gripes that are preventing me from giving a full 5-star rating are minimal, and could probably be altered by customizing the notebook on Lenovo's website. But since this is the model I purchased, I have to point out that:
-The battery life on the Office Depot retail model stinks. It's rated for 3 hrs, but the site doesn't specify cell-size (4-cell, in fact) but unplugged I can only get a little over 2 hrs.
-Gloss! Both the screen and topside of the case are high-gloss, and therefore extremely fingerprint prone. I have a DIY solution for the case, but the screen can be a nuisance in sunlight.

beware of battery that comes with this model

I bought this Edge 14 from Office Depot thinking it came with the standard 6-cell battery. But it is only a 4-cell battery, and as with the reviewer above me, I have gotten a maximum 2 hour battery life after using it for a few days.
Other than the battery, I like the laptop a lot, great keyboard in my opinion.

good buy

well, i will start off by saying that I had been browsing for laptops for a month and I decided to buy this one on fourth of july sale because I know lenovo thinkads are good. well a week after i had recived it, i went to the office depot website and the price of the laptop in $70 less. The bad thing about this laptop is that I'm sure before I had bought it, it said it had a 6 cell battery which would give me over five hours of battery life.i've been using it for a couple days and the battery dies in less than two and a half hours. So that's why i went back to the website to confirn what i had read and it says that it has a three hour battery life. Either i had made a mistake in reading it upon purchase or the price dropped because they are providing a cheaper battery with less run time.
performance is good. i've only used it for basic tasks so far. i would like to hear from others who have purchased this product
