Without a doubt the best office chair I've ever owned. Have owned it for 13 months. No problems whatsoever. Such a great chair that we bought one also for my husband's office. Love it! No more aching back from hours of working at the computer.

Unconventional but so comfortable
Pros: Appearance/Design, comfortable, features, functional, Quality of Material, Size & Weight, Well Made/ Sturdy, easy to assemble
I purchased this chair for my home office because a "conventional" adjustable padded mid-back chair was causing me to suffer lower back and tailbone pain. This mesh chair has no padding to press on sensitive spots, but because the mesh "gives" it is extremely comfortable but still very supportive. An added bonus is that the mesh affords excellent ventilation. I loved this chair so much I bought a second one for my office two weeks later. The chair is very easy to assemble (clear, simple instructions) and includes the one tool needed), and you can even leave off the arms if you prefer armless. Chair is fully adjustable and works well for all size people. The packaging was excellent as well.

Think Twice on This Chair
Pros: comfortable Cons: Quality: Flimsy, back support bolts tend to shear off
I purchased this chair 2 years ago, liking the mesh backed chairs. It gets a bit warm in the summer in Texas. As one other reviewer mentioned, do not wear shorts without putting something to cover the mesh seat (or just wear pants). It is not comfortable with shorts on.
Two months after I purchased it, the right armrest broke off due to a crack in the plastic. I called up the warranty number and within two weeks they sent me a new one, only it was an armrest that wasn't the same as the one that broke. It was from a different chair line, but it still fit.
About 6 months later, the oil from the gas cylinder leaked out all over my chair mat. Another call and two weeks later, a replacement cylinder. Another 6 months went by and like so many on here, the two bolts holding the back on sheared off and I took a nice tumble to the ground. As I write this review today, the replacement gas cylinder will not keep the chair up, it goes down by itself when I am sitting in it. I have since purchased a new chair, not made by Quantum.
I would hope with the $300 price tag, that the quality would be much better than it is.

The latch that stops the seat from sliding forward/backward is snapped off after 1 hr of use. I'm only 150lb.
After examining the latch, I found out that the housing that holds the latch is cracked and the latch completely came off. This is definitely a design flaw. The housing of this latch should be made of steel instead of hard plastics. For this kind of price, all the pieces should be designed with durability in mind. This is not supposed to be a disposable chair.
1-star is the lowest I can select. 0-star is more like it.

THIS CHAIR NEARLY KILLED ME
the BACK COMPLETELY FELL OFF as i was leaning back and i almost fell back completely and could have died if my head hit a hard surface. not only did the screws pop out but the actual plastic backing that is SUPPOSED TO KEEP THE BACK ATTACHED RIPPED. i weigh 209 lbs, well within the safe weight range.
THIS CHAIR IS DANGEROUS.
the instructions tell you to tighten the back screws every 2 months (ridiculous), and that isn't even enough to keep it in place. you have to end up tightening it EVERY WEEK.
DO NOT BUY THIS CHAIR. I CANNOT BELIEVE ITS STILL ON THIS WEBSITE FOR SALE!

Broken after less than 1 yr of use
Pros: Appearance/Design, comfortable, features, functional, Size & Weight Cons: Easily Damaged, Quality: Flimsy, Wobbles, bolts are not of good quality, design of backrest poor
My boss got me this chair in August of 2008. The mesh design helps keep me cool & the seat is very comfy. I like all the adjustments & positions available. However the height adjustment of the back rest always falls out of place & I'm constantly having to reset it.
After reading the reviews about the faulty bolts for the back rest, I just made sure to check the bolts tightness on a bi-weekly basis, even though the instructions suggest to check every 3 months. I did discover that they were coming loose on a regular basis. Well around January '09 I came in to work one day and noticed a bolt head on the floor below my chair, one of the bolts had sheared off and half of it was stuck in the chair! So I changed my bi-weekly bolt check to a weekly one & hoped that it would hold up. Well this morning the other bolt broke (same as the last one) and the part of the backrest that attaches to the seat (which is plastic) broke & the whole thing fell off, nearly taking me with it.
I called the warranty place & they need proof of purchase before sending me a replacement back rest & bolts, but I still have to buy a bolt extractor to get the two sheared off bolts out.
I'm well under the weight limit & don't understand why these bolts come loose so often. I wouldn't suggest this chair for purchase. At $300+ you should be able to expect more than 9 months of use. At least it's covered under a 5 year warranty, but being in my old chair until the replacements comes doesn't sit well with me.

For $300 dollars, one would expect a chair that would last a few years, but this isn't the case. I created an Office Depot account just to state my dissatisfaction with this product.
It's been a little over a year and my chair fell apart due to the 2 rear bolts. Though I might be able to buy new bolts, I'm sure it'll happen again. The problem is that one side of the backrest is plastic and bends when pressure is applied. Had both sides been designed with metal, this would not be an issue.
Another flaw is the height adjustment of the backrest. Just a few months ago, all of the levels gave out and I was stuck on the lowest setting. I opened the adjustment area to investigate and found that the plastic notches had worn out!! I'm 5’11; I only used the highest setting! So I stuck a screw in to lock it where I usually had it... MacGyver!
I originally bought this chair because of its mesh design. Texas weather can get pretty hot and I figured this would alleviate the discomfort I received with other chairs during the summer. It's better than most but I still get/got hot. *insert sad face*
My last cautionary bit of advice deals with the butt support. I perhaps do not have the best posture, but whenever I decided to sit back on the chair, I find myself sitting on the plastic edge. I think this chair would have been better off if the front cushion were moved to the back. All it does is lift my legs and heat up.
At 150lbs, I’m not a big guy by any means. I’m 100lbs below the max capacity, I’ve been the only user, and I’ve used it for nothing more than sitting… so I don’t understand how the chair could decay in such a short amount of time!?
Please shop around!!

A great chair
Pros: Appearance/Design, comfortable, Quality of Material, Well Made/ Sturdy Cons: the arm rests move quite a bit
I find this chair to be extremely comfortable. One con I found is that the arm rests tend to move quite a bit and I am always finding myself repositioning them. I would recommend this chair to anyone even considering the arm rests and the price being a little steep

Review 9 for Realspace PRO™ Quantum Recycled Mesh Mid-Back Task Chair, 40 1/2"H x 30 3/10"W x 26 1/5"D, Black
As another reviewer has already stated, this chair has a design flaw. I've been using this as my home office chair for about 1.5 years. It has been extremely comfortable and has held up well until tonight.
Just a few hours ago as I was sitting in it, the 2 bolts holding the back of the chair on sheared in half and the back fell off. Now I have 2 half bolts and am not able to remove the other halves from the chair to attempt a fix. I am not a heavy person at 130 lbs, so I would have figured it would have held together longer.
I sure hope I kept the receipt and that they'll honor the 10 year warranty.

Great Chair
Pros: Appearance/Design, comfortable, features, functional, Quality of Material, Size & Weight, Well Made/ Sturdy, adjustable arms Cons: mesh seat gets uncomfortable if wearing shorts, seat can get uncomfortable
This chair is great. I work from home doing tech support for up to 12 hours a day and this chair is well worth the price. The armrests are lightly padded and swivel side to side as well as adjust up and down. I do wish that the back of the chair pushed forward a bit more as I like A LOT of lumbar support (like you get with a typing chair), but I just added my own lumbar support pillow and it works fine. The mesh seat is mostly comfy, but you do need to adjust your position every 15 minutes or so to stay comfy. Also you have to wear pants due to the mesh; shorts are very uncomfortable on the mesh as it will pinch into your skin. The mesh does keep you staying cool though. Overall I am happy with my choice and would recommend this chair.

We bought 5 of these chairs for our office in Oct '07. They are very comfortable and offer a lot of adjustment choices. Unfortunately, there is a design flaw that has causes 2 of the 5 to break. There are just 2 small cheap bolts that hold the back of the chair to the seat at the bottom. On both of the broken chairs, these bolts broke in half in less than 18 months of normal use, causing the back to fall off. We're keeping our fingers crossed on the other 3, but my hopes are not high; it's just a matter of time. We could of course repair the broken chairs by replacing the bolts, but as the bottom screw part of the bolt is left screwed in to the hole, we haven't figured out how to get that part out yet so that new bolts will fit in.

Great chair with simple fix
Pros: Appearance/Design, comfortable, features, functional, Quality of Material, Size & Weight, Well Made/ Sturdy Cons: sits too low but easily fixed
I LOVE this chair. The comfort is wonderful, and all the adjustments make it easy to sit for hours. To me, this chair is actually more comfortable than the Aeron chair I use at one of my clients.
The ONLY issue I had with this chair is the height. I'm 6', but most of that's in my legs. The chair just sat too low. I was reaching up to my keyboard and mouse.
So, I came up with a super easy fix. Flip the chair on its back, then take a hammer and smack the center post sticking out of the bottom, using a piece of wood to not mess up the post. This will loosen the base so you can remove it. Then, take clear packing tape and tape the first four inches of the bottom of the center post with about 20 layers or so. Put the bottom back on and voila! The chair now sits about 2" higher and is still very stable! The tape does not show at all and has lasted months this way.
Now it's perfect!

One problem with this chair
I just bought this chair. While it IS very comfortable, there's one glaring problem: it sits VERY low even at its highest setting. I called tech support and they confirmed this is their lowest char at 20" seat height. Most office chairs go to 22-23". Just a warning for those tall guys or girls out there.

Worth every penny
Pros: Appearance/Design, comfortable, features, functional, Quality of Material, Size & Weight, Well Made/ Sturdy, made for sitting a long time Cons: i haven't found one
There are many desk chairs out there costing lots more money, including a number of this model type which are "upgraded" versions. I replaced my leather desk chair because the seat cushion padding would lose its comfort after an hour or so in the chair. I wanted something different, something comfortable after 4 hours as well as one hour. This chair does it and you'll notice it the minute you sit in it. It's sturdy, easy to set up, and even easier to sit in. The adjustable arm rests and the forward seat slide is icing on this cake of a chair. There's a $50 instant savings right now which makes it the bargain of the year. Don't hesitate to try it and feel secure buying it. Highly recommended!

Nice Home Office Chair
Pros: Appearance/Design, comfortable, features, functional, Quality of Material, Well Made/ Sturdy
I sit in a Herman Miller Mira chair at work and needed something similar for my home office. This Quantum chair is very adjustable (even more than the Mira). The only complaint I have is the arm rest height didn't go down far enough (it was about 1.5-inches too high) and would cause my shoulders to get sore. I solved the issue by taking a Dremel to various parts of the arm assembly and cut it down to the height I needed.

So glad I found this chair!
Pros: Appearance/Design, comfortable, features, functional, Quality of Material, Size & Weight, many ergonomic adjustments
I have an arm injury due to poor office ergonomics, and therefore had to buy a new desk and chair. I sat in chairs at stores, and this was the only one I thought felt comfortable immediately. In researching what I needed in a chair, there are a number of adjustments recommended by OSHA, including arms that adjust for both height and width. I looked at some of the more expensive ergonomic chairs, such as the Herman Miller Equa and Caper, and realized they didn't have anywhere near the adjustments this chair does! (I think the more expensive Aeron chair does.) This chair has many of the features of $700+ chairs at a fraction of price. It includes the arm height/width adjustments, as well as the seat depth adjustment. All are important if you need to sit properly and painlessly. I am so grateful to the many people who positively reviewed this chair, which helped me reach the decision that this was the chair for me. Great buy. My one con is ease of assembly. It was hard to get the wheels pushed in. If you have weak arm strength, you'd need help. (I did.)

incredible value for the money
Pros: comfortable, features, functional
As other reviewers have said, this is basically the Ergohuman chair made by Raynor Eurotech, but for LESS THAN HALF the price (bought with coupon for $268 including tax). I researched for months (herman miller, humanscale, ergohumann, etc.) and found this chair to have 90% of the features at a considerably lower price. Assembly is easy for the mildly DIYer inclined.
I've used the chair for 8 months, here are my impressions. The chair is firm, and may take some getting used to at first. In fact, I had some back pain for about two weeks. This was probably due to the fact that I had such a poor posture working on a computer for 8 hours a day for many years with poor seating conditions. I was prepared to return the chair because of this, but stuck it out, and I'm glad I did. I have not had pain or discomfort after my body adjusted to sitting in a neutral posture. This being said, no matter how ideal a posture a chair provides, you must change positions throughout the day, and this chair allows for it with three different recline settings. The other adjustable options are height, back support, and seat pan depth. These are all simple to use and make it easy to find a comfortable position.
The arms. Positives are material and left/right angle (pointing in or out). The material is not too 'grippy' on your skin when mousing, as many other high priced chairs are. I would call it a smooth firm cushion. The left / right angle is great, allows you to point toward the keyboard or out toward the mouse. The one negative I have is the arm height adjustment. The arms do not move low enough by about one inch. At their lowest point, they are still about an inch too high for mousing with the forearm parallel to the floor (I'm 6ft tall). I've adjusted to it, but I would have liked to see the arms go lower.
For best results, this chair should be used with an adjustable keyboard tray, and optimal monitor placement. I use a humanscale keyboard tray, and have the top of the monitor adjusted to eye level. If you still use a keyboard on top of a desk where you have to reach to type and mouse for 8 hours a day, you probably won't see any difference in comfort with the chair. Remember, make the computer and peripherals conform to you, not the other way around.
I've given such a detailed review because I suffered with poor ergonomics at the workplace for many years which led to sore arms, shoulders, neck and back. If you are going to work on a computer for 8 hours a day, which many of us do, do yourself a favor and get this chair - it really is a great value for the money.

Great Chair
Pros: Appearance/Design, comfortable, features, functional, Quality of Material, Size & Weight Cons: back does not stay up
I love this chair, the mesh makes it very comfy and even though I have only had it for a year it seems durable. I have to sit at my desk for 9 hours/5 days a week and it is the most comfortable chair I have tried. So many chairs lose their comfort at the end of the day or after 6 months of use. I do have one complaint, the back design, when it is in the right position for me it is sooo perfect, but it won't stay. I don't think it is broken, I think it is just a bad design. But even with the seat back lowered down all the way (I need it to be about mid-level) it is awesome.
