You get what you pay for...

Pros: small and cheap
Cons: expensive to run - unreliable paper feed.
I've owned HP and Brother laser printers since lasers first came out. I guess the old addage is true - you get what you pay for.
The HP1006 is slower than advertised, has a smaller paper tray than advertised, prints approx 1/3 the number of pages per cartridge as advertised. Page for page this is the MOST EXPENSIVE laser I've owned in toner usage alone!
The paper take-up is unreliable. It grabs multiple pages frequently with HP Premium paper, and jams VERY frequently with heavier stock.
It's small. It's (relatively) cheap initially, but I'm sick of buying expensive toner every 400 pages, and sick of clearing it's frequent paper jams. My recommendation? Spend the money to buy a better printer. You'll save yourself frustration and save money on toner in the long run.

product is less that one year old. when it worked i loved it. so much faster than ink jet printers. however, tonight i tried to print and i found that the power light was not lit. relocating the printer to a known power source did nothing. recently our power went off two or three times. the printer is on a surge protector as is my other ink jet printer and the ink jet printer and everything else in the house is just fine, but this laser printer seems to be dead in the water. i do not know why.

i bought with a starter toner cartage also bought a full cartage thinking the starter one would not last long
i was so wrong it lasted for 6 mo doing heavy printing it works well good quality

Cons: does not heat coffee.
I needed this inexpensive printer AND low cost ink cartridge to print everyday medium quality printing (financials). It does what I need and I am pleased.
Not much more to say. It does as advertised, a LOW cost solution to everyday printing needs.
I do tax returns, fiancial statements to customers, not much graphics. It prints photos.
Wish my Lexmark wireless worked this well.

This is the worst printer I have ever used. It is not for office use. It does not hold enough paper, it prints forms, checks, envelopes, labels, etc. backwords. Yes it was cheap, however you also get CHEAP! All in all it is TERRIBLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I've never had a problem with this printer. It's quick, can print front & back (manually), does envelopes with ease. Lasers never have an ink-clog problem. This printer works when I need it to and it's fast.

I am almost very happy with this purchase and would probably buy again but only at the same price that I paid for the one I have. The one problem I do have with the printer is when I print labels. I use file folder labels that come 30 to a sheet but I only print 3-5 labels at a time, then run the same sheet through for the next couple of labels I need to print and so on. But, everytime I run the sheet of labels through the printer the blank labels get greyer and greyer until I finally end up throwing away several per sheet because they are too dark print on. Other than that it's a great little printer!

Nice Printer, Macs need v1.0.6 driver

Cons: smaller toner capacity compared to lj1012/1020
This P1006 is a compact, speedy printer suited for personal or light office use. It's working fine with our iMac Core2Duo (White) running OS X 10.4.
Macintosh users: If the printer comes with HP installation disc v4.0 or lower, DO NOT use the disc. Go to HP's web site and download and install the Mac driver version 1.0.6 (release date 7-9-08) instead. Version 1.0.6 adds OS X 10.5 support and fixes the frustrating Microsoft Office 2004 printing bug (where the P1006 would constantly error out when you tried to print from Word or Excel).

I hate this printer, it is the worst one I have
ever used. It hangs up and constantly has to be reset. I would not ever buy this again. We have had HP printers before and they have been very reliable, this ONE is NOT!! I would like to throw it out the window!

Pros: it has a brand name
Cons: terrible performance
This printer was terrible. It would lock up at least 5 times during the workday and I would have to go through a 4 step process to reset everything, and maybe, just maybe it would work...but more often than not I'd have to repeat the "fix" process a couple of more times to make things work.
