amazing laptop
Pros: Display Screen, easy to use, features, Performance, value for money, design, quiet, built in dvd remote Cons: sound could be louder for watching dvds with ppl
ive had this computer for a year and its great. im a college student and this is my primary (well.. only) computer and its held up very well with no problems, crashes, or slow processing, etc. very high quality computer.
there are a lot of thoughtful features that i didnt really appreciate when i first got it, but after a year, i realize how convenient they are and how much time they save... the touch sensitive mute button, memory card reader, three usbs (not cramped together, 2 on one side, one on the other), quickplay dvd remote (that you store INSIDE the laptop so youll never lose it!), and the integrated webcam and microphone. i also like the wireless on/off switch in the front because its helpful when an unstable wireless internet connection conflicts with a stable cable connection.
overall, very sleek, PERFECT screen size (you can stare at it for hours), and a very good weight for portability.
a lot of small tweaks that make it very efficient and it looks nice.
good price, great if you want a high quality laptop that is very portable and easy to carry around but at the same time has a good screen size for long periods of use. (small screens eventually make me head hurt and will annoy me, but this screen is a good size. )

Fairly good laptop
I bought this laptop about one month ago. It's been working well so far. As written in the other reviews, it has many nice features like the camera, speed, moderate weight, and a classy, stylish, and compact design. The processor speed is only 1.83GHz but since it has 3GB of RAM, it's relatively fast compared to other laptops.
The only problems I've had with this computer so far is with the wireless network card. When I use this laptop at school, it does not connect to the internet occassionally even though the network meter bar is 4/5 or 5/5. This is not because the network I'm trying to connect to is a local one because I've been able to connect to the internet on the same network at other times. It is not the network's problem because I've gone to the Information Technology department directly to ask whehter they had network problems and they've said no.
Also, and more importantly, when I had this computer for two weeks, the computer crashed and went to the blue screen when I was surfing on the internet. It said that it crashed due to a fatal error caused by the wireless network adapter. Before and after that had happened, when I tried doing the diagnose for the wireless adapter's problems, all of the suggested solutions did not work. The computer kept saying there was a problem but couldn't fix it.
The last problem I have with this computer is that sometimes it won't turn off even though I click on the "shut down" button. All the computer did was say that it was shutting off then restarted again. The first few times this happened, I had to click shut down again for it to power off, after it had restarted. A few days ago, I had to command it to shut down 4 times but it kept restarting. I finally had to hold down the power button manually for it to power off. This problem has never happened to me in all my years of using a computer or laptop before.
I'm not sure if the problems I've described pertain only to my laptop or to this model in general. Overall I really like this laptop because it performs very well normally. It is a lot faster than I thought it would be.

WHATALAPTOP
doitaibu reccommend this WHATALAPTOP. So many stuff is integrated: from mini webcam to microphone, card reader to Media Center Remote. This is remarkably strong and fast, with Duo core 1.8 Ghz and 3GB of RAM, even when all visual effects are set to the highest and an antivirus program is running. But most importantly, the weight is so favorable; I cannot say exactly but it's relatively as "heavy" as the College Algebra book, though many tools and functions are integrated ! If anyone feel the mood of bringing a sidekick-warrior to school to study in the library or just bring to a cafeteria to suf webs, I bet you would graps at this, just me!

Great Laptop for Everyone (minus gamers)
CASE DESIGN: The laptop has plain boring black case, which is helped only by the subtle, but interesting design on the cover. It's not very noticeable or unique, but better than nothing. The cover and the screen itself is very glossy, and therefore prone to fingerprints, but the laptop comes with a cloth you can use to wipe them away with ease. Though I like that the screen is glossy, it can be annoying at times due to glare.
As another reviewer mentioned, I don't like how the power plug is on the right side of the laptop. I agree that it would be better in the back. However, I do like how there are 2 USB ports on the right and one on the left, rather than all on one side, the back, or stacked on top of each other. This makes it easier to plug and remove them.
KEYBOARD DESIGN: The touchpad is glossy, like the rest of the laptop (but fingerprints do not show up on it), in comparison to Toshiba's commonly matte touchpads. The buttons are also deeper, so you get more depth when pressing them, whereas Toshiba laptops have very flat buttons for their touchpad. One thing I like about HP laptops is the ability scroll via the touchpad by moving your finger downwards on the side of it. This is a unique and handy function, even though it can be hard to control sometimes--it's better than not having the function at all.
On the other hand, the touch-sensitive Quickplay strip above your keyboard is more annoying than useful. It is supposed to be convenient for controlling media like DVDs etc. and controlling your volume. First of all, I find that the play, pause, fast forward, rewind, and stop buttons completely useless because I don't use any of the Quickplay features, except a DVD once in a while, and these buttons do not control your default media player (such as Winamp)--you must use the function keys instead, which can be annoying since you have to press 2 buttons at the same time. Secondly, when you press one of the buttons on the Quickplay strip, it is rather slow to react. For this reason, it is very difficult to control the volume using this strip, although it does work and is sufficient for my needs--I'd still prefer a regular volume control wheel or something. The one thing I do like about this strip is the "Mute" button. It seems more responsive than the other buttons.
PERFORMANCE: With 3GB RAM, this laptop is very fast (this is the most RAM you can utilize for 32-bit Vista, which is included with this product). I use Windows Vista with Aero and Search Indexing enabled--all that jazz--and it runs perfectly, no lag whatsoever. Even with Windows' built in Disk Defragmenter defragging or Acronis Image Home creating a full backup in the background, there little to no difference in performance (at least with regular usage, I didn't test it with gaming or something intense). And this is all on medium performance too--imagine how fast it would be on maximum performance! I have no problems running Firefox, AIM, Photoshop CS, MS Word, etc. all at the same time, whereas on my old desktop, I would probably get a "Virtual Memory low."
HEAT & FAN: The fan can be somewhat loud in a completely quiet room sometimes, but is otherwise, you won't notice it--my roommate's Dell laptop has a much louder fan that completely drowns out mine. The laptop is cool for the first 2 hours, but when running on battery, will get too hot for my lap. However, when plugged in, it seems to stay cool.
GRAPHICS & GAMING: Although this laptop can handle light gaming, such as Counter-strike etc., it will probably not do well with the higher end games of today because the graphics card is integrated and therefore, too slow for it. However, the graphics card performs just fine for all other functions (and looks great!).
WEBCAM & MIC: The integrated mic and webcam are very useful and function excellently. Although I don't use either very much, it would be nice if the webcam software had a way to time shots--there might be a function for this but it's not very obvious... Another thing is that the software included (Cyberlink YouCam) is a nuisance at first--when you first open it and download the update, it will place a shortcut on your desktop. If you delete the shortcut and then restart your computer, it will be there again. The only way I know of fixing this is by changing the registry key (Google it).
SLEEP MODE: The sleep mode on this laptop is very stable and it remains completely cool and silent. Even if the battery runs out during sleep mode, the laptop automatically hibernates, so when you turn on the laptop again, it will turn on faster and still have your session in memory. However, when waking up from sleep or hibernate, the laptop can be slow to recognize changes--for example, if you change wireless network locations, it will take about a minute to realize it needs to connect to a different network. Sometimes, it will also take a while to realize that you have plugged a mouse in to use before waking the computer up, so you will have to unplug and replug it back in. Otherwise, sleep mode is very handy, fast, and stable.
BATTERY OBSERVATIONS: - With Wi-Fi card on, the laptop lasts for a little more than 2.5 hours on battery before reaching 10-20%. Not bad. - It takes about 1.5 hours to recharge from 10%. Other notes: - Very portable and light at 14.1" - I agree with the other reviewer that the Wi-Fi switch is uncomfortably in the front and somewhat easy to switch off by accident, but it's only happened to me once so far. - Comes with nice pair of earbuds and a remote (very nifty!) - Does not come with recovery CDs, but they can be made or ordered.
OVERALL: I definitely recommend this laptop. It is more than enough for the majority of users--average and power users alike, with the only exception being serious gamers, and a perfect option for students. It was an absolute bargain for me, snagging it for $549.

Nice compact laptop
Pros: wireless n, 3gb memory, intel core 2 duo processer, fingerprints on lid not as bad as thought Cons: no bluetooth
I bought this over 2 weeks ago and I havnt had any problems with it. I like the size, its not too big and not to small. I can pick up a neighbors wireless signal and surf the net without even having a router (might not be the safest thing but hey it works). It comes with 60 days of Nortons which i havnt had no trouble with. I took it to my local Burger King and the library to test the wireless and it worked great. Battery probably last 3 hours which is better then I thought (depends how your using it). Absolutely no regrets here!

Nice purchase
Pros: integrated webcam, dual core processor, 3 gb ram Cons: no bluetooth
I bought this laptop for my brother who needed a portable laptop. With screen size 14.1" and less than 6lb weight it offers portability. With dual core processor and 3 GB RAM the system is powerful and provides an excellent performance. With integrated webcam it is an excellent purchase. To top it - OfficeDepot had an excellent deal on this laptop... so grabbed one! Only thing missing is integrated bluetooth which I fail to understand why HP didn't add given the configuration of this laptop.

Very nice laptop
Pros: 250 gb hard drive, 3 gb ram, wireless n, very portable, fast, nice screen Cons: wireless switch on front too easy to turn off, power cord on side would like on back, have to mail in rebate form
Purchased this laptop aproximately 2 weeks ago. Was concerned that it ran Windows Vista and would be slow. Runs great! Like the weight and feel. Very portable. It establishes a stronger wireless connection with nearby networks than my last laptop. Wireless N is a benefit, even when attaching to a Wireless G router. 250 Gb drive is great. No storage worries..for awhile.

A Pretty Good Deal
Pros: good price nice processor and ram Cons: video card isn't great - but you already know this
Just got it today, and it's pretty good. Haven't had a lot of time to play around with all of the features, but from what I can tell, this is pefect upgrade I've been looking. Laptop is portable and powerful. (650 after mail in rebates)
