just a cheap one

but the settings are not enough to support many softwares under vista.
Just save money and ok for basic purposes of school/office use.

School laptop with limited battery

Pros: hp, light weight (5.8lbs), nvidia chipset
Cons: power hog
Okay, this laptop is ment for a desktop replacement used for easy moving. This means, it can be mobile but the battery will not support extended times. The battery will last anywhere from 20 minutes to about 40 minutes.
The Athlon x2 64-bit is a power hog but powerful. The laptop would be good as a desktop replacement. It's smaller than a desktop for sure and the RAM being expandable up to 4gb is nice (3.5gb will be the max the system can register unless one installs the 64-bit operating system upgrade. Don't do it on this machine. There is no reason to.) The graphics card from nvidia isn't bad either so it can handle games. Don't be fooled by this though, this is not a powerful gaming machine.
Mobility is in mind but there are far better models to go with if mobility is primary purpose. Look for AMD Turion x2 64-Bit or the Centrino name brand from Intel. The AMD will be cheaper and the Intel will be better for mobility however, more expensive.
Pentium D/AMD Athlon x2 64-bit battery life is about 20 - 40 minutes
Core 2 Duo without centrino is about the same as the Pentium D and Athlon x2's
Centrino and Turion can run for around an hour to three hours off a six cell lithium ion battery (which comes standard in notebooks 14.1 - 15.4 size). 12 cell can run up to eight hours but normally 4 - 5 hours. It will depend on what is being used.

Great Product Great Price

Pros: economical, fast, easy to use, lightweight
Cons: touchpad is irratic
Fantastic machine for a good price. Easy to use, fast, and lightweight. Does everything I bought it for, and more. No need for a more expensive machine, it's all here. It is better then my desktop.

Great budget laptop

Pros: price, good speed (2ghz), reasonable ram, reasonable hard disk
Cons: none
This is a great budget laptop! You cannot beat the price for the features and quality for this laptop.
Why buy a netbook PC when you can purchase a full featured laptop with high quality and a good PC name (Compaq/HP).
