Nice cheap upgradeable / package
Pros: can be upgraded to some extent, runs real quite and cool, nice accessable usb and sound ports in front
Cons: can't think of any

This computer is a pretty good deal. Easy setup, operating system is already on, etc. Things you will probably want to upgrade later.

1. Only has two memory banks, only goes to 800 mhz speed, only goes to 4 gb max. Comes with 1 gb. Get 4 GB 800 mhz (2 pieces of 2 gb memory modules, DDR2) Will need to upgrade to Vista Premium or higher to get the full 4 gb, Vista basic only see's about 3.3 gb or so. Comes with Vista basic, but that is fine for most, 3.3 gb memory is more than enough for most of us. Memory is cheap now also.

2. Video is very slow using 3dmark 06 benchmark software, something like 315. But if you don't notice it on the stuff you do, it's not a problem. Although this is no good for any gaming, but the MB does have a PCI - Express 16 slot so you can upgrade to a nice video card later. The one other problem is that the PSU is only a 250 watt and has no PCI - 6 pin to attach to a PCI - Express 16 video card you might add so you will need to upgrade to at least a 500 watt PSU with a 6 pin. You can get a desent 500 watt PSU for under $50 now though.

3: It only has one 3.5 internal bay for a hard drive but does have an open 5.25 bay that could be utilized later for another hard dirve if wanted. Not sure, but I think a special SATA cable can be purchased to hook another hard drive up, since the CD / DVD unit is taking up the other SATA connector. Not real familiar about the connections for SATA.

4: Downloaded software to check the temperature's inside the case, it runs real cool and is very, very quite, can't even tell it's running. I like that, my old computer was very loud. Has a nice big fan on the CPU and a little bigger one sucking the hot air out from the rear.

All in all this package is pretty darn good for the money.

Good configuration for a basic computer
We bought this computer for our daughters (one in 3rd grade and one in KG). They normally use the web games and do some research on wikipedia for their projoects and homework.

No setup is required. We are able to go online within 10 Min. The setup time took 5 min or lesser.

Other thing we like is it came with the bunch of loaded software like cyberlink and muvee. LiteScribe is also there so that you can make the lables. On top of it Vista has it own tools. Gmail looks great.

HP Total care software is good and guides you on how to use the tools and software loaded. We are satisfied with this desktop. If you are looking for a basic desktop, you can choose this computer especially for the value of your money (250$).

Cons: You may also needs to considering upgrade the memory to 4 GB (Nowadays you are getting it for 20$ ; check in one of the deals forums ..slickdeals or fatwallet).

Computer missing drive bays & card reader
Pros: good price and fast processor, 2000 fsb
Cons: missing metal enclosures for two drives, missing card reader, non-resposive customer support, only two memory slots, save your money

I got my computer delivered on time after having to spend hours on line to order it due to OD's computer system being down.

It booted well and is faster than I would expect with only 1 GB of memory.

However I was very upset to find that the two available 3.5" bays (one internal and one external) were missing. No card reader despite OD specs say it is included. Only provision for 1 SATA (not expandable) due to second SATA used by DVD. Says 6 speaker output, but I cant see how with 3 jacks.

I have spent over 1 1/2 hours, so far, waiting for HP/Compaq customer support to pick up.

Good Budget Machine
Pros: it's an hp, upgradable
Cons: out of box low resources, vista basic

This machine is a great budget machine with the right kind of TLC. With only 1gb of RAM, the machine is going to be slow. I would recommend one of the Office Depot tech services if your going to get this one. When you register and setup the machine, your going to have about 100 - 180mb of free RAM that you'll be able to use. The OS and all the other programs will take up the rest.

HP's Web site states the machine will take up to 4gb's of RAM but on the Vista Home basic, it will only accept 3.5bg. I say only but thats pretty good for a basic computer.

It has a smaller hard drive but for basic use, It's large enough. It does have room for a secondary hard drive if you wish to install one.

The chipset for the motherboard and onboard video is GeForce 6150 which is pretty good.

The computer out of box is ment for school work of the most basic type and searching the internet. Email your friends and research oover the web.

The machine however, has the potential to be much more. It does contain 1x 16x PCI-e slot for another video card. If your planning on buying this one to upgrade, you've made a good choice. It has room for it but if your going to be upgrading this one, I'd suggest getting a better powersupply. This unit is stocked with a 250W which is enough for small upgrades but if you want to use a higher powered graphics card, I'd recommend a 450W or higher.
